Expanding into a robust data center portfolio ssd sata 1TB, designed to provide higher areal density and lower total cost of ownership (TCO)SSD SATA 1TB, To meet the diversified needs of customers and markets.
· Both large and SMBs need more reliable storage technology to achieve big data storage and meet enterprise storage workloads, which traditional desktop HDDs cannot achieve. The new WD Gold 16TB and 18TB HDDs are now available to system integrators and distributors to help solve this storage pain point.
· Since March, the new 16TB and 18TB Ultrastar DC HC550 CMR HDDs have shipped to select hyperscale data center and enterprise OEM customers – including Datto, DDN and Dropbox. Today, we are open to cloud computing, large enterprise customers, and other data center architects to enable efficient infrastructure designs with high capacity, low power consumption. The 20TB Ultrastar DC HC650 co-hosted SMR HDD is still in beta.
Western Digital drives continuous innovation in HDD technology with the introduction of 18TB and 20TB Ultrastar HDDs
Western Digital continues to innovate technologies such as energy assistance, mechanical design, materials, and recording technologies. The 20TB Ultrastar DC HC650 co-hosted SMR HDD and the 16TB and 18TB Ultrastar DC HC550 CMR HDDs were released in September 2019 and are now shipping as priority EAMR technologies for commercial implementation.
With the excellent power consumption provided by Western Digital HelioSeal technology and mechanical innovations such as TSA that improves head positioning accuracy and provides greater capacity capabilities, these HDDs offer leading areal density. Nine-disk drives also enable customers to configure and scale their data center environments more efficiently while providing a lower total cost of ownership.

Enrich the WD Gold series with new 16TB and 18TB enterprise hard drives
recently introduced WD Gold NVMe SSDs After that, Western Digital once again enriched the WD Gold HDD series for channel customers, including 16TB and 18TB CMR HDD. The new WD GOLD CMR HDD is available now and comes with a five-year limited warranty. WD Gold CMR HDDs are designed for enterprise-class servers and storage systems and are designed to meet heavy workloads and a variety of big data applications.
WD Gold delivers up to 2.5 million hours of MTBF for enhanced reliability and durability while achieving higher and consistent performance with anti-vibration technology. Designed to handle workloads of up to 550TB per year, WD Gold HDD is one of the leading processors in 3.5-inch drives. The new WD Gold HDD uses Western Digital’s HelioSeal technology to enable large capacity with low power consumption.
Ultrastar platforms and storage servers are now equipped with 16TB and 18TB Ultrastar CMR HDD
Western Digital today announced Ultrastar Data60 and Data102 JBOD, as well as upgraded Serv60+8 storage servers that leverage the company’s enterprise-class 16TB and 18TB Ultrastar DC HC550 CMR HDDs. These new platforms that are available on the market support capacities up to 1.836PB in a 4U design and come with a five-year limited warranty. The Ultrastar platform upgraded to the Ultrastar DC HC65020TB SMR HDD is expected to launch next quarter.
Ultrastar Data60 and Data102 are key elements of the next generation of de-integrated storage and SDS infrastructure. Ultrastar Serv60+8 is a high-capacity hybrid storage server that includes computing power. These Ultrastar platforms meet the rigorous needs of large enterprise customers, OEMs, cloud service providers and integrators with demand-intensive, shared hard drives or hybrid storage. Data60 and Data102 offer the flexibility to specify HDD and SSD combinations, with up to 24 HDD slots for SSDs, while Serv60+8 offers a choice of CPU, memory and HDD combinations. All of this is designed to enable businesses to balance capacity, performance, and cost.
With knowledge of hard drive characteristics and systems, Western Digital implemented two design innovations on these platforms to improve data reliability. Western Digital’s patented IsoVibe vibration isolation technology helps ensure consistent performance even under heavy workloads. In addition, Western Digital’s innovative ArcticFlow hot zone cooling technology allows drives to operate at lower, more consistent temperatures than conventional systems, resulting in lower fan speeds, reduced vibration, lower power consumption, quieter operation and improved reliability. The combination of IsoVibe and ArcticFlow has been shown to reduce field drive vibration by 62% compared to Western Digital’s previous-generation platform.
Scott Sinclair, senior analyst at ESG, said:
Through these two capabilities—IsoVibe and ArcticFlow—Western Digital has now incorporated its extensive HDD knowledge into the platform, enabling it to perform better. Any modern IT organization must take these innovations into account when evaluating storage hardware. Components like HDD platforms that run behind the scenes can help businesses reduce the hidden costs of storage.
